MARYLAND CENTER FOR HISTORY AND CULTURE

WayFinders: Making Sense of Our World (2026) invites families to use their senses to learn history together. A dedicated exhibition designed for ages 5 and up encourages visitors to use clues from nature and their senses. Sniff a beehive, crank a bucket elevator, listen to cicadas, and play in the Shadow puppet theater.

In the history of Maryland, people used their senses and careful observation to guide themselves and others. They followed both these natural clues and their own inner compass, or their sense of what was right, to help lead the way.

THE LEWIS MUSEUM

TITAN: The Legacy of Reginald F. Lewis (2025) is now open to the public and offers an in-depth look at Lewis’s groundbreaking achievements, from his historic billion-dollar business deal to his lasting contributions to economic empowerment. Visitors can explore artifacts, multimedia presentations, and inspiring stories that celebrate the man whose legacy continues to shape generations. The exhibit will be on view through April of 2026.

iWITNESS: Media & The Movement (2024) is a compelling exhibit that will examine how media—Radio, Television, Photography, and the Press—impacted the modern American Civil Rights Movement. This exhibit commemorates the 60th anniversary of the monumental Civil Rights Act of 1964, and explores the efforts of activists, community leaders, and organizations in the state of Maryland who leveraged the power of media to open the eyes, hearts, and minds of many, forcing them to bear witness to injustices while compelling them to seek change.
